Primarily methane (CH4) formed from the anaerobic (without oxygen) decay of plants.

BTW, it is not, I repeat NOT a diamond. Diamonds are pure carbon cryltalized at very high pressure. Methane contains hydrogen & is the simplest hydrocarbon.

marsh gas is nothing but a methane gas (CH4).
methane is the first member of alkane group.
When it is formed in marshy areas coz of anaerobic decay of plants the gas is produced which is nothing but a methane .so it is for that reason due to its formation in these areas it is called as marsh gas.

Marsh gas is composed of methane, the world's smallest diamonds. Each molecule is made of one atom of "pure carbon" surrounded by four atoms of pure hydrogen in a tetrahedron. In to lab, a diamond can be split in a blanket atmosphere of pure hydrogen gas and carbon can be vapor-deposited on the cleaved diamond seed to grow a larger artificial diamond. When someone breaks wind they lose a virtual treasure of "raw" diamonds (and sulfur). Diamonds are a gal's best friends?
