It will work with the new Nvidia drivers but really, why bother with Vista, save your money, wait for XP Service Pack 3 which will about June next year which will have a lot of the Vista features and not weigh your machine down like a leaden brick.
As for DirectX 10 this should also be a download for all machines so unless your a serious dual core user, wait, let them sort the bugs out (and their are loads), let the software companies actually publish some stuff using it.
People are already sucked into the Vista hype, check out the blogs of people who are actually writing it and using it.

It will work, but it will NOT utilize certain features of DX10, I think the first series of cards with DX10 support will be released soon. Then again, most games for the next coming months (even after DX10's release) won't fully utilize all of DX10's features. So, just like the previous releases of DX's before, yours will support the most current at the cards release, which is DX9. Now this doesnt mean to go out and buy a new card, because like I said, you card will work fine, just will not be able to use certain DX10 graphical effects.

The 8600GT is a sturdy card on your money and that i assistance it over the 2600 or 3850 you've known at from ATI. in case you do ultimately finally end up increasing your money i'd stronlgy recommend the 8800GT from nvidia therefore of the easy shown reality it somewhat is between the suitable playing cards on the marketplace and exceeds something the 2600 or 3850 can cope with.
