Drinking too much water without the accompanying electrolytes can result in death (worst case scenario). The reason our blood is salty is because all life evolved from the ocean... so to evolve into land animals we essentially "carried the ocean with us" inside our circulatory system. Our blood even has the same specific gravity (salinity) as sea water. Hyponatremia occurs when you are very thirsty and are consuming a lot of water without replacing the sodium that has been depleted through sweating. Electrical signals actually cannot be transmitted through water alone. If you were swimming in a pool of perfectly distilled water with no impurities, you would even be safe in a lightning storm. It's actually the sodium that conducts electrical signals throughout the body. This is why people who hike through jungles always carry a block of salt (in addition to water). Without salt, the nervous system will not be able to send signals throughout the body. Drinking too much water under these circumstances throws off the balance of electrolytes by diluting the concentration. Eventually signals cannot be sent from the brain to the body resulting in muscles cramping and the heart stopping. Drinking excess water can also result in the brain swelling I believe. One women even died because she was so nervous about an upcoming urine test at the doctor's office that she continued drinking water until she collapsed in a coma.

As for other things... well, this answer is already "too much" so I'll just end it here. :P

When you feel like Trevi Fountain in Rome. :) lol

But seriously you can tell how much is too much when you have realized that enough is enough. Because at that point, you know that the glass is neither half full or half empty. So decide for yourself........now? or later?

;)

You can actually drown yourself by drinking too much water.
That's where I would draw the line on consuming water... Yep death that's the limit.
