I'll grant you it is incorrect grammatically, but it fits the song nicely. Remember, back then songs told a story with the singer playing different roles. It is far superior to most "music" today. I would rather listen to Muzak then the stuff today!

I think he was attempting to be metaphorical..kinda like saying yeah I'm so lonely my horse is not even named but at the same time no one is around to cause me pain either.

I think it's the most repetitive, boring song ever, except maybe for anything by Phil Collins!
