rebooted means restarted, boot, bootstrap, bootstrapping an Elecronic Device implies that the device needed to be Pulled up by its bootstraps, or booted in order to function.
Forgetting the boot thing, because that is a PC system cycle, good way is a USB cable and device.

If you search the web for a free programme called copypod and download it to your PC it will copy all your current i-pod tunes back into i-tunes on the pc.

You can use iDump if you're a Windows user.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/IPOD-TOOLS/Multimedia-IPOD-tools/iDump.shtml
or Senuti if you're using a Mac.
http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/
They're both free, too. ; )
Just make sure if you have multiple songs with the same title, rename the others. Example, you have 2 songs titled "Happy", rename one of the songs to prevent files overwriting. You can rename them "Happy 1" & "Happy 2"
