Yes it is possible. My father has an HP laptop and my boyfriend has one too. They both have two different kinds of speakers for them, the ones that are already built with the laptop and ones that they went out and bought that you plug into it. So yes it is possible. You just have to know what you are doing.

Not usually. There is a micro switch inside the speaker socket on the laptop which cuts out the internal speakers when external, ones are plugged in.

Yes I used outside speakers on an advent because the sound was poor and both internal and external worked fine
