from reading other answers on the subject of moon landings (conspericy or not) it has been stated a mirror was left on the surface of the moon. why can i not see this mirror in any of the maps of the moon.

http://www.moon-phases.com/moon-map/moon-map-index.html
http://www.lunarrepublic.com/atlas/index.shtml

these two sites show pictures of the moon surfice (there are others), i would expect the mirror to be visable.

I think you probably didn't mean that you wanted to see "the mirror", I think you wonder why the retroflector or mirror or whatever we want to call it is not represented on the map...
but then I read further and you say that there are shots of the moons surface...so I am not sure. maybe the others are right and it is a matter of size and distance, but maybe the ones taking the picture simply didn't get it into the shot....If they had taken a picture of it then it would be in the picture. If what you want is to see a picture of it...then research to see if a picture of it exists, instead of trying to find it in pictures of the moon. I guess it would be cool to see a little sparkle poking out from a moon shot...see if anyone else has had the same idea...but maybe the best you can hope for would be an artists rendition of it...as in the case of many pictures of galaxies. Fascinating really, probably to see it they would have to filter out much of the light being reflected from the sun since it would overpower any light reflected from the cute little retroflector...thank you for an interesting thought!!!

If light from the moon takes a few years to reach Earth how come rockets get the in a few days? Light takes 10 minutes to get from the Sun to Earth. Also, there is no dark side of the Moon. The Earth spins in time with the rotation of the Moon and you can see different parts of the Moon from Earth. Do you really think you can see a hand mirror on the map of the landing site? I doubt it!

Perhaps it's on the dark side of the moon as a cruel joke?

Dunno. It would be enormously interesting to look into that mirror though. You'd see life on Earth as it was a few years ago because that's how long it takes for light to travel.

They are to small to see, the reflectors are only about 12-18 inches square. They were left at several sites. They are still used today to calculate the moons distance from us. They have calculated that the moon is travelling away from us at about 3cm per year.

And to Heroytri, light does not take years to come from the moon, it take 8mins from the sun, and just a few seconds to come from the moon.(the moon is 240,000 miles away, light travels at 186,000 miles per second)

The retroreflector is right at the Tranquility landing site, and it's one of several pieces of equipment left there.
It's not very big.

And it's not a mirror, exactly, it's a retroreflector, which is an optical device that returns light rays back in the direction they came from. If you looked in a retroreflector, all you would see is your eyeball.

They do manufacture mirrors on Earth quite cheaply if you want one. The cost of the telescope needed to see yourself on the one on the moon would far outweigh the cost of replacing it with one from Earth.

Maybe because it's so far away! That's like expecting to see an ant in the street when you are standing in your house. It's just too small to be visible from such a long distance.

Do u know how big the moon is? You would never see it close enough to look for it!

I'll bet it's the mirror that was stolen from my house! I'll get the Police to look into it

must be on "the dark side of the moon"
