Buy an ovulation kit, that will tell you when your body is ready and then do ya stuff. The sooner you do that the more chance you have of getting it in at the right time.. By the way, the sperm can remain live for up to 5 days.
And during ovulation, you really only get 3 days in which to do it so try 2 days before it starts and carry on a further 3 for the best results. You can detect a pregnancy on the day your next period would otherwise be due.

If it was on the last day of your period, the chances of a pregnancy are minimal.
Your period is when the lining of the uterus sheds. Without the lining, there's nowhere for the fertilised egg to bury into and so you basically can't fall pregnant. The pregnancy window is during the week before your period, basically. So it's not very likely at all that you're pregnant.
I suppose wait another month for your period to come, but the other tests are hormonal ones. I'm not sure how to attain them, but call your local General Practitioner and ask him about getting a test. Personally though I wouldn't. If you're worried about a pregnancy, I suggest contraceptives in the future.

Within a week. I know cause that is how soon my wife found out. The doctor told her to wait one week. But the only way to be 100% sure that early is to have a blood and urine test by the doctor. For the drug store tests give yourself about 3 weeks.

Just do a test, they can give a result after a few days of conceiving.
