Are these salaries extremely high, or do the people doing the work for them get a fair living wage that is not too high? Nothing is free. Charitable organizations ask for volunteers all the time, but a large scale not for profit charity takes a lot of work, and time. The person doing the job would have to be independently wealthy to o it for nothing. Do you think at charity dinners, that they don't have to pay the caterers? When a company advertises that a nickel from each sale of a particular item will go to charity, do you question the actual charitably because you know that 5 cents is small percent of the profit of that sale? If they are doing a job that is exceptional or better, then as in any other job, salary should be based on performance and its continual benefit to the charity.
No Profit = amount earned minus expenses.

I went to the web site because I also wanted to know the salaries. All I could find was financial statements that group all the salaries together. All the research I have done on United Way came up as negative response with only one positive so far. Gotta make you wonder!

I don't participate in this in those "mandatory meetings" that companies used to make you go to at work. Did you know that is illegal? They can't make you go to one particular charity meeting and not bring in others for equal time. So I never go.
