Can you come up negative on a pregnancy test and still be pregnant?

I haven't had a period in 6 months and have taken numerous pregnancy tests that all read negative. I've made a appointment with my O.B but I was just curious on the subject.

Also if I'm not pregnant what could be the cause?

Any info on the subject is much appreciated!

You CAN be negative on the pregnancy test and then later test positive.

However, the situation you describe (no periods for 6 months) and a series of negative pregnancy tests indicates that you are not pregnant.

There are a number of reasons for you not to have a period. If this is something new that has happened after you have established a menstrual cycle, the doctors would call this "secondary amenorrhoea".

This could be due to many things - see the wiki page for a list of causes.

Go see your OBGYN doc to discuss and investigate this.

Yes you can, but seeing how you've had numerous pregnancy tests, the results are probably correct.

Pregnancy is often the first thought when a period is missed, but there are many reasons for having a late period. The causes are stress and anxiety, drastic weight reduction, hormonal imbalance (such as with polycystic ovarian syndrome),
endocrine disorders such as thyroid disease or pituitary disease/tumor, other illnesses, excessive exercise, menopause (normal for women over age 45), medications, including birth control pills and other contraceptives and uterine scarring, usually from procedures such as dilation and curettage (D and C). If any of those apply to you, that may be your reason. Keep your appointment with your OB, he/she will be able to find the reason in your case. It is not uncommon. Good luck!

your best off making an appointment at the doctors and they will do a pregnancy test for you but the stop of your periods could be down to stress.

Go and see your doctor immediately, it is quite possibly a sign of something much worse.
