It depends on where is the aneurysm and whan type of coil has been used.
For aneurysm of the arteries in the brain, the coil used is intended to make the blood clot within the aneurysm, so that the aneurysm cavity is clotted without compromising the blood flow.
However, the stent used to treat the aneurysm of the abdominal arota is supposed to support the arterial wall, and thus prevent it from rupturing. Here no clot is formed in the artery.

It all depends on what you mean by the term 'clipped'. The major threat of an aneurysm is that it may rupture at any time. Depending on the location of the aneurysm a rupture could lead to death.
