Three years ago my dad took part in the Great North Run. We parked up in Newcastle for the start, and having seen him off on his way decided to try and get to the finish line. We tried the metro. Big mistake. Sunday service and huge crowds trying to do the same. By the time we got there, my dad had already crossed the line and we missed it. By mid-afternoon the whole area was gridlocked, and we still had to get back to Newcastle to pick up the car, which was still hopelessly overcrowded on the metro. You want to be at South Shields early. Real early. How close you'll be able to park to the finish line remains to be seen though.
