It could be the implantation of the baby in the uterus. This sometimes causes spotting.

Light spotting is sometimes normal in pregnancy. Have you had your pregnancy verified by a physician? If you have not you need to do so as soon as possible. Pre-natal care is very important for both you and your baby.

Lie down with your feet and legs supported by pillows above the level of your heart. I had periods with my first daughter and she is now almost 21. When she was almost a year old however, I had a miscarriage. I had severe cramping. The cramps were more painful than labor pains were for me (I have 5 children/2 sets of twins) I did not even know that I was pregnant when I started to miscarry. The OB told me to go home, lie down, elevate my legs and to stay calm and relaxed. She said that if I was trying to miscarry that this might stop it. Unfortunately it did not. However, when I was pregnant with my last set of twins this happened to me again and again it was how I found out that I was pregnant. I immediately laid down and elevated my legs, after about an hour, the cramps (actually severe pains) subsidded. This happened on a weekend. On Monday I got into the doctor and found out that I was pregnant and that everything looked OK. Two weeks later I found out that I was carrying twins again!

If in doubt, don't hesitate to go to the ER if you can not get into see your OB. Really the only time that, that may be an issue is if it is a weekend. Even then, OB's are on call and can be reached by phone. They do not mind calling you back and answering your questions.

Put your legs up, call your OB (if you have one/call the hospital if you don't) and try to relax (I know easier said then done, but it will help if you can).

If the spotting is a light brown color, this is normal. You may be farther along than only 2 weeks, my guess would be about 4-5. This normally happens around the time that you would otherwise be missing your period.

Spotting can come and go, on & off throughout the first trimester. It's a way of your body "cleaning out the guck" and getting ready to make room for baby.

Light cramping is also normal too.

If you experience bright red bleeding, clotting, and severe cramping, you will need to call your OB immediately.

It could mean nothing, it could mean something. I know everyone hates this response, but, you really need to call your doctor just to make sure that it's nothing. I know someone that had the most complication free pregnancy and spotted early, and then I know someone that had a miscarriage and spotted.
