Has anyone noticed how many people get into this answers site and talk about comitting suicide? I don't get why they would use this source as an anti suicide forum. There are professional resources available to them, there are family and friends to support them hands on but they use this. This isn't a solution to the problems that they are having! I respond because they ask. Obviously it's an attention getter when they say I want to kill myself. Who wouldn't try to intervene and try to talk them out of it. I think suicide is selfish and I believe telling a million people you want to kill yourself tell me what you think, is selfish too.

Talking about suicide is a way to show that you are sick and need help. I have seen many persons ask in forums about other symptoms to deceases and they rarely get the same negative treatment as those that are suicidal do.
Someone that asks about pain in a leg gets advise and ideas on how to get help, someone that has a pain in the soul and is suicidal get responses telling them they are selfish, that they should get a grip and so on.
Looking for help is the first step in realizing that you are sick and need professional help. I don't think it should be put down.

Then there are of course people of all kinds that are attention seekers, using suicide and other things to get attention. If you think it's just for attention then say nothing at all. If you are right then you haven't fed them, if you are wrong you have at least done no harm.

Yes, but wouldn't you hate to be wrong? if some one is so depressed they don't want to exist any more, they probably don't feel that the people around them can or will help.

Suicide is selfish. It places the pain or sadness, hopelessness or depression a person feels above the feelings of their families, friends and those who have to deal with the fallout of the act. That doesn't mean we should just give up on people who think life is just too hard. They may just be doing it for attention or for a bit of a laugh, but what if they are not. What if they are calling out to the wide world for some one to help them and we don't respond? or don't answer. I would rather help and be wrong than do nothing and be wrong.

Many people who feel suicidal feel isolated and incapable of maintaining personal relationships. Hence, it is easier to come on a site like this and look for a lift up rather than turning to people in their lives. It isn't wrong to want to feel a connection of any sort. Yes, they need help and no, they probably won't get it here on this site, but as long as they are talking about it and trying to connect in some way - then they are still hanging in there. And you never know what someone on this site will do - it could either lift them up enough to seek help - or if people are harsh, could actually push them down far enough to actually attempt suicide. It really is important to watch what you say and do. Be responsible with your words. And maybe they are just on here pulling a fast one and just trying for the drama. But would you want to take that chance. Would you want to be the one who tells them they are full of it and be the one who pushes them over the edge?

True but you also notice some of the difference in someone serious or just here for attention. i use to work at a hot line 80% were for attention just to get someone to speak out but there is the rest that are serious Ive took calls from them all and Ive heard gun shots on the phone over doses etc. but even if you think most are for the acceptance of the world and looking for someone out there to notice them you have to also remember every case is the same and anyone mentions it . Its a very serious thing regardless who .i say we all have a option to just think well its a cry for a attention but the ones that see it as a cry for desperate Help is the ones who makes this site and everyone think twice. some people just need someone to talk to and some just want a way out . please for all of our sake and love for human kind if you see this mentioned just remember we don't know what is going through their mind but we are here to help anyone in any cases. This site i love because not only for attendance in appreciation for all the great answers but for the help of everyone that needs it. thanks everyone that answes in respect to others regarless of what it may do :)

Its their way of saying that they feel neglected and want attention.

most actually won't do it or will attempt it unsuccessfully.

but try to help these people out. lend them an ear and hear them out.

won't do us much harm and you might actually be saving a life.

So, are you thinking outloud, making a complaint about human nature,,,or contemplating sucide? Your thoughts are somewhat random and disjointed,,,what are you actually trying to write?
