I have borderline diabetes. I doubt it has to do with it.

actually it might have a lot to do with it. Diabetic can suffer from vascular degeneration or just bad circulation in general, if that's the case what you're feeling COULD be what is known as a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) or a blood clot in a vein. It is a serious issue because if it's large enough when it dislodges it can get stuck in your lungs and cause bigger issues. Or it might be nothing, is there pain associated with it? if so tell your doc at your next appointment and he might start you out on some blood thinners or something.

Nursen' is probably correct. My mother has Diabetes. If you can!!! Try different leg exercises. Try to pull your knee of one leg to your chest and then the same with the other. Just pull until you feel the muscle tighten, you will know what I say when you do this. Over time you will be able to bring your knee all the way to you chest. After each time you do this raise your feet into the air and support your back with your hands, elbows on the floor (hope you understand). Do like you are pedaling a Bicycle. This will help improve circulation and give you a more limber leg area. Also you can try spreading your legs. I know this sound sexual but it IS NOT. You spread your legs like you are having sex. Spread as wide as you can until you feel the muscle not want to go further, pulling your feet toward your Butt, this hard to explain I hope you understand. Over time, as mentioned above with the knees, you can spread your legs wider. This will help improve circulation and you become more limber. I not sure this help you, but, many people I have showed this too have said it helps. Just do not push things let time allow you to move further into these positions and limber up. It will not happen in a week, it may take a month or more, just time your time. There is more like sitting and trying to touch your toes. The main thing you trying to do is "Stretch" each muscle further over TIME.
OK I am back, nature called and I had to answer!! Sorry. One last thing. Stand facing the wall with your feet about 2-3 feet away from the wall. Hold your hands against the wall. Then bend your knees like you sitting down but keep your feet in place and flat as you can. You will feel the calf muscle strech!!! Just do a little at a time as you can do more, it should feel good after streaching those muscles.

could be a herniated disc. Mine first made a hot spot in my calf and then in the center of my hip and finally ran from my back to my hip down my leg to the calf and finally all the way to my toes that became numb and tingly.

If your leg is swollen maybe it's a clot.
