I can't pick one! I have three Floyd tracks that I simply can't separate for pure back-shivering beauty...

1. Wish You Were Here - I hate to be predictable but it is an amazing song. In fact its the song that first got me into floyd. From the very second the radio tunes itself into that gorgeous riff, to when the second guitar part comes in clearly over the top and makes my back shiver, through to the immortal lyrics "So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain....", right through to "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found?" and finally into the fade out. The song is absolutely 100% perfect. It pushes every one of my buttons.

2. The Great Gig in the Sky - what can I say about this? Its just beautiful from beginning to end. Its like having great sex. Starting with that haunting piano opening...slide guitar...a few mutterings...the little crescendo...and then...."wohoh-ohoh waaa oh oh...aaahhhh"....I remember the first time I heard it, my head almost exploded. And 15 years on from that day, I still can't listen to it without my back tingling...I find it hard to breathe its so exhilarating. And then it calms...she wails....it calms some more...she wails some more....you can feel her pain...you're not sure why she's wailing...but you can feel every note...and finally she fades and the piano slows and slows until it finally disappears without a trace. Its like eating a perfectly cooked steak...the initial explosion fading with every chew until it finally fades away leaving a nice taste in your mouth. This tune is as near as damn perfect as a tune can get.

3. Comfortably Numb - God I hate the way the Scissor Sisters murdered this last year. When I first heard the original, in all honesty I actually thought "hmmm...not sure about this one". It began "Hello, Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?" and I was thinking "where is this going?"...and it carries on for 2 more short verses...and I'm still thinking "hmm not sure"....and then....all of a sudden....key change....in comes the orchestral part...."There is no pain, you are receding"...."A distant ship's smoke on the horizon."....I could feel the tingle welling up in the base of my spine, rising up towards my neck..."You are only coming through in waves"...every hair on my arms was standing on end...and just as I thought it couldn't get any better, the chorus finishes "I have become comfortably numb" and bosh! there it is! in comes the guitar...haunting...perfectly written....flowing gracefully across the orchestra...."Iiiiiiiiiii have become....comfortably numb". And then it just drops back to the verses like the explosion hadn't happened....and I could see the genius in the song's waves of emotion....in comes the key change chorus again...and...another guitar solo...this time harder, crunchier, with more feeling...this one means business....the only question on your mind is, "just how far will this solo go?"...and it doesn't disappoint. Anyone who's seen floyd perform this live will know that Gilmour just belts this solo out like its the last solo he'll ever play...the cymbals crash...the lights fly...its just truly awesome.

So my apologies, I can't limit it to one...I shouldn't really be limiting their genius to just three. But Floyd to me cannot be bettered....they are the essence of progressive rock...

...oh yeah...and show me a floyd fan that wouldn't agree they sound *even better* after an enormous fat joint ;)

It would be a toss up between "Comfortably Numb" and "Wish You Were Here". I love Pink Floyd and love their sound. They had something that no one has ever been able to come close to in sound. The lyrics of their songs are slightly insane, but so right.

Not a big PF fan, but liked the movie The Wall, so "Another Brick In The Wall" would be my favourite

Wish you were here - it's a very well performed piece, the whole album is good but I think that that is the best single song.
