I'm going to format and repartition my computer in a few days and I was wondering what is the best way to organise the partitions, some sites say you need to have one for the system and one for games etc. Can someone help me out? I want the computer to be reasonably fast so I can play Valve games on here.

Depends on your hard drive size but create a 20gb for the operating system and then the rest for data/games.

yes, i agree to the first 2 answers here. use only 20gb for the os, and the other partition for all your data and games.

i'm a computer technician and what i usually is is 3 partitions, 1 for the OS, 1 for the data and games and a small partition to keep my back up image of the os, i use symantec ghost and backup my os so it would be easy to restore if the OS crashed.

There are so many different ways. I think that most important is to have /home in a separate partition so that you do not lose your personal files when re-installing or upgrading the operating system. If you install many programs which are not distributed with the operating system, then also put /usr/local in a separate partition so that you do not have to re-install them if you re-install or upgrade the OS.

It is better to have a separate partition for OS and You can have what ever no of partitions to store your data.
It is not a must to have a separate paartition to have a separate partition for OS.But it is the best practice
