Doesn't the word 'celibate' mean that an individual who has had sex before in the past but have decided not to anymore until he/she feels ready the next time for whatever the reason may be? I keep hearing different definitions of the word. It's starting to confuse me...What's your interpreation of it? Thanks.

To each his/her own. Just not the thing for me. Considering how many relationships end when the sex gets wack, well...yeah... But if a person can hold on til marriage then all the power to them for being able to wait so long. EDIT: Sorry. lol. I just checked back on the question right now. Anyway, those that practice abstinence their whole lives would make good priests or nuns. They don't have to though but ideally they would be good candidates for those kind of roles in society but again, they don't have to. I'm not sure how a relationship without sex would go but if by any chance two people want to practice abstinence their whole lives and be in a relationship then that's their preference. Though I have never seen any couples like this, they may exist and if so that's their business or lackthereof. lol (No offense to anybody who is considering or who lives this lifestyle. I just thought it was funny because of the double meaning of business.) As for people forced into waiting...well...it depends on the intentions. For some people they just don't want their kids to have early pregnancies, but if a person is mature enough to go the whole nine yards and they are legally an adult then I see why they can't go the whole nine yards. lol EDIT: Thanks. = )

If you are celibate you are abstaining from sexual intercourse. Naturally, you would also avoid those things that are apt to lead to it. Celibacy does not imply virginity necessarily.

Protestant churches generally teach

Celibacy in singleness
Fidelity in marriage
