Most drugs are legal. Pharmaceutical companies make huge profits, so do cigarette and alcohol producers. Guess what? Government make huge profits from these drugs as do the companies even though the latter two are the cause of the most deaths in society. Drug companies actually develop drugs then look for a disease to cure...take interferon for example. Who is most anti stem cell technology?
Illegal drugs? Well, if they were legalised and controlled, there would be less deaths and crime. These drugs are cut with such substances as talcum powder and the like in the search for more illegal profit. And if a purer form of drug hits the street, people die of overdoses because there is no label on them showing their strength.
Why in some countries are people who are dying in agony from diseases like cancer (maybe caused by drugs (cigarettes) in the first place, denied access to diamorphine (heroin) to give adequate pain relief?
Legalise all drugs and control them. Or alternatively make all drugs illegal including alcohol and tobacco.

I think that it would be the best possible solution to the problem that is already here.
No more dealers 'cutting' drugs with god knows what, clear labels telling you what is in the drug you are using and the side effects of taking them, taxes to pay for rehab centres and teaching people of the down side, freeing up police time to deal with more important crimes, any way there are more deaths and crimes commented in the UK per year because people are drunk. As for all people turning into junkies over night i don't see how???? it's easy now if you want to buy drugs and take them go to any club or pub.

i don't have a problem with it ,if people want to go through life sick and spaced out on smack so be it.information and regulating it so people know what they're taking and the short and long term effects of this.the DEA can try to stop the illegal trade all they want, but they arrest 4 smugglers another 4 are there to take over so in effect it's a pointless excercise so just legalise the lot.then some parents would actually know about drugs rather than saying to their children "don't take drugs 'cos they're bad",believe me i have experience on this.so any parents reading this who have this point of view don't be too harsh on your kids try to understand and help them.so if drugs were legal i firmly believe there would be less stigma if you are a user and more understanding.hope this view helps and sorry if it's more of a ramble than a answer.

I work in a rehab residential house supporting recovering addicts.
I see the damage first hand as to substance misuse and broken lives. It would be a tragedy if drugs were made legal. There are already too many people with drug problems now, without giving people license to use.

Well first of all..it would no longer be any fun. Then, it would be commercialised..but, forget it this will never happen.
If it does, everyone who smokes it will be forced to take a cannabis sensibility test. The doc takes your blood, sends it to a laboratory and tests for any kind of negative reaction.
I had that done, cos' it is important. Sometimes the affect of cannabis on the brain is not always the same by different individuals, the only person who can tell you that is yourself, you know yourself the best!
In a way I would welcome it, would not have to go looking all the time..lol..and it would have to be cheaper!

Let me see.
One view.
The underground drugs trade would disappear, the price of drugs would come down, there would be less crime to fuel peoples drugs habits, people who take drugs would be less cagey about it and would be more available to seek help, less addictive types of drug would be developed.
Another view
Drug use would become more prevalent, crime would increase, large organisations would emerge to exploit the addictive nature of drugs, the government would impose huge taxes on drugs.
The reality would probably be somewhere in the middle

Many of the people with great power will go broke. Do you have any idea how much money drugs move? A lot. Money in the wrong hands.

health: the drugs themselves would be cleaner/purer/safer for starters because they'd be a product on the legal market..
crime: druglords would not control the trade anymore, but responsible law-abiding business owners would. not dissing drug dealers, cos hey somebody's gotta do it.. but i'm dissing all the violent exploiters who mess with lives cos they're trippers.
law: alcohol would be a precedent.. ie. no drug-driving, no drugs to be sold to minors.. anybody who provides them to kids will go down hardcore (it would be easier to trace them. bonus.)
just a few points.. call me naive.

Well.....we would have alot of fu#$ed up people running the streets!!! It could be good bad. I think that the good points would be that lots of people would be entertained alot easier, they would sit on their porch at night and watch each other run down the street high! The bad part...all the cable company's would go out of bussiness.
