I have a deep speaking voice, well deep for a girl anyway. I want to be a singer, but I honestly hate my voice. Is there any way that I can make it better or lighter? I also keep hearing that you're suppose to sing from your diaphragm, but what exactly is the diaphragm?

first of all what you hear is not what others hear.........so listen to others when you sing.......secondly......have you ever heard the famous beautiful singers with that deep throaty voice..my god woman, men love it.

Ella Fitzgerald.....Etta James....My love has come at last.....omg, you know how many women call my office when I have a hoarse voice and tell me I need to do phone sex? Rather strange for a tax office......then they have their husbands call back!

Accept the voice you have and find music that fits it....

Your diaphragm is the muscle below your lungs which helps control your breathing. A deep voice on a woman can be a great asset... while you can go to vocal coaches and work on changing your voice, listen to some Karen Carpenter and see how great a deep voiced woman can sound - maybe you will accept yourself as you are and work on your strength that you already have. Why do you hate your voice? Make a mp3 sample of you speaking and singing and e-mail it to me - diegobass13@yahoo.com

Helium can, but a diaphragm is the thin, semi-rigid membrane attached to the central magnet. The magnet induces the diaphragm to vibrate, producing sound!
