I rejected IE years ago for FireFox. The main reason was because FireFox has tabs. For me, it made things so much easier.
Granted, in IE (and in FireFox) you can simply open up multiple windows. However, by incorporating tabs, I am able to do much more than I could with multiple windows.
For example, I do a lot of research, both for school and work. It is nice to have one browser open up to follow what I call research threads. Say I'm looking up forensic handwriting examination. I can open up one window, go to google, and search for information. When I find a site that I might be interested in, I can open it in a tab, and continue looking on the search page. Then, when I get to the bottom of the page or whenever, I can go back through the tabs, closing the ones I am not interested in, and saving the ones I do like. It makes for quicker review rather than opening several windows. It's also much neater - doesn't take up lots of space on my tool bar, which seems to fill up fast if you've got Word, Notepad, WMA, and Spider Solitaire opened up already.
Also, tabs allow me to keep each browser window specific to topic. I can do one window on a specific topic, and keep all the related sites I want to look at open in that one window. Then, I can use another window to follow a different research thread. This helps me stay organized when I'm searching, say, several libraries or databases on the internet. I can keep each window specific to one database, with out having a new window for every book I want to look at.
So, I LOVE tabs. Makes my life much easier!

Saffyre makes a good point about tabs helping to keep your desktop organised. Also using tabs instead of a new window to display a new webpage uses less system resources as you don't have a second internet explorer running.

Just convienience really. Firefox has tabs too. It might keep resource usage down as well, as its all in a single window instead of multiple windows. I dont particularly like tabs, but its just personal preference.

I have been a Firefox user for about 5 months now. I thought I'd give IE7 a try - I uninstalled it after less than a week, it's pants!
Stick to Firefox - it's safer, extensions are a doddle to install, manintain & upgrade, and it will be properly developed, not like most Microsoft products!

Tabs in IE suck, they stole that idea, like everything else
"Ohhhh Arnt they fun, They take up extra ram and everything"
That's exactly what they are doing, making people upgrade their computers(that's what windows eXPensive is all about) , more money for Intel :)

i totally agree with Saffyre! tabs make it some much easier, and a lot neater! when i was working on the website for my school (private rant here, hang on - (which i made from scratch using html code, learnt from scratch, spent my lunch and breaks working on the graphics, MY TIME!!! and than my bl**dy IT teacher decides he's better than me and makes a cr*ppy one on DREAMWEAVER coz he's stupid, and used MY graphics, did it over the holidays and didnt tell me coz he's a coward"!!!!!!!)) i discovered Firefox and fell in love. i think firefox is better than tabbed internet explorer, but i havent got it on this computer because it's my parents and they wont let me!! my computer is currently lacking internet access : (. anyway, i think that tabs make life easier, but if you dont like them, dont use them. simple.!! : p
