I've been awake for nearly 36 hours now and I'm really, really tired. Being stupid, I drank a pepsi before I watched a movie about 3 to 4 hours ago. I tried laying in bed for about 30 minutes and it always seemed like sleep was so near, I could almost feel myself succumbing to it. Unfortunately though, it never came...and here I am. I think what doesn't help is the simple fact that the whole time I was trying to go to sleep all I could think about was going to sleep.

Is that a problem or do you think I'm still being affected by the caffeine? Someone please help...I really need the rest.

actually I think it is over tired, combined with blood sugar drop and only a little bit of caffeine left.

The pepsi will spike up the blood sugar, and in about 2 to 4 hours that sugar will be gone and you might even have low blood sugar spike from over metabolism. many people do. I do.

strangely over tired can make it rough to finally get to sleep.

I would drink some warm milk with sugar. which will boost your blood sugar again and give you some comfort food in the tummy.

Once in awhile I do "hair of the dog" and drink a 1/4 cup of pepsi just before bed which sometimes seems to do the trick too.

try to relax. count sheep, do a breathing excercise.. slowly in hold, slowlyout

sweet dreams.

I absolutely hate to tell anyone to take an over the counter sleeping pill, but hunny it sure sounds like you could use some sleeping pills. Read the boxes carefuly and choose the perfect sleeping pill for yourself. Go to Wal Greens or Wal Mart or someplace like that. Or you could order some natural sleeping pills from Puritan's Pride magazine or website. There is an all natural pill called Valerian, it is supposed to help you sleep. And there is all natural pill called melatonin. Melatonin pills gave me an awful headache, but they don't do that to everyone. There is also Tylenol PM, and if you don't have any pain, but just need something to make you sleep you could try something else. But being awake for 36 hours straight is ridiculous and I am doubting that the caffein has anything to do with it. If you believe that caffein will make you stay awake for 36 hours, then you do not ever need to drink caffein again. Drink Caffein Free Pepsi, and De-Caf Coffee, and De-Caf Tea, etc, etc. Sprite, 7up , Root Beer, etc have no caffein. Stop drinking caffein. And when you do go to sleep, do not lay there and think about sleeping. Let your mind go free and think about other things. When you lay down to sleep that is the time to get lost in your own little world, get lost inside your head and think happy thoughts, don't lay there and think about sleeping and be miserable. Be happy, and let your mind roam and wander.

Don't drink any coffee, caffeinated tea or cola drinks for at least 6 hours before bedtime. Try a glass of warm milk or chamomile tea about 1/2 hour before bedtime, take a hot bath (no shower, needs to be a bath), and read a book. Don't take any over the counter sleep drugs and don't drink any alcoholic beverages before bedtime (messes up your REM dream sleep). You should be fine. If you continue to have problems, you might want to see a doctor because you may have something more serious like sleep apnea which they can diagnose at a sleep clinic.

It could be the caffine. Try taking a warm milky drink next time, like hot chocolate. Eventually you`ll drop off as your body will just shut down. Everyone has to sleep sometime!! Sleep well!!!
