I would definitely sue him for slander, harassment and prejudice. You have rights and laws that protect you from ego tripping maniac bosses, use them well. Nobody should have to put up with that type of abuse especially from a "new" boss at a job, apparently he isn't deserving of his position! He is supposed to act as a role-model and a professional after all.
good luck to you and remember this...

In a very calm way tell him/her that I don't know who they thoight they were talking to or what year they thought they were living in, but if they ever felt the urge to call me that again, they better pick up the phone and tell it to a friend if they liked their job. And leave the room. After that I would go directly to the next higher up above the jerk and file a formal complaint for his racially charged comment.

Nothing. It is his problem, having said something irrelevant, stupid, and making a commitment !
Such 'calls' do not materially alter anything around , unless people around are equally stupid to attribute some value and importance to it.. in which case, it is the view of a collective majority that becomes a matter to be considered.. Usually, people volunteer to help us in a big way, if we remain calm, and so, again a sensible thing to abstain from any reaction(very difficult though, because of our own ego's thrust).

Flattery to a whitey like myself.......
as long as my job security is good I would be curious as to the meaning and intent especially since I'm white or should i say transparent... might be a left handed complement
