It will depend on the dye in the fabric, sometimes you won't be able to get the stain out without changing the original fabric. This is why they always tell you to test the product on an inconspicuous place.
I find that straight ammonia on the oil stain works very well, just pour it right on the oil and wash as usual.
Good luck

Sprinkle TALCUM POWDER on the oil stain before you do anything else. DON"T LET THE FABRIC TOUCH WATER OR ANY DETERGENT. The powder will absorb all the oil. Scrape of the talc after sometime. If the oil patch is really bad then you need to repeat this procedure putting powder on both sides of the fabric.
You can now safely wash the fabric.
This really works.

put some liquid dish soap on the stain, rub it in, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse it under cold water. wash it in the washer as normal. if the stain is fresh, it should come right out. if it is old, it MIGHT come out, or it might just help it a bit. good luck!

if it's motor oil you are SOL.
If it's cooking oil, use hot water, and a pre treatment stain remover, or color-safe bleach alternative.
