I am a 5th grade teacher and at the end of the year, we spend 3 days on family life....we get to teach them all about everything...the girls go into one room and the boys in the other..boys with male teachers and visa versa...the first day we spend talking about what changes the girls will be going through...how they will need to shower, shave, use deodorant, get thier period, breasts, etc.....we also go over tampons and pads, show them examples of both..importance of keeping it clean..thye watch a corny 50's video of a girl going to a friends house and getting it for the first time...the info is the same, clothes funny for them....then the second day, they see a video on the boys and what will happen to them...how they also go through changes, but we dont go into too much depth with the boys...we usually skip the erections and wet dreams because they start to giggle at just the picture of the penis...but just so they understand that boys are going through changes too...the last day we answer any other questions that they may have and talk about relationships and how you may change friends or keep them and its okay...talk about mood swings...just getting them to feel comfortable with everything that is going to happen..we also answer any questions they may have about going to middle school..hope this helps!

My kids study "family living" in 5th grade. They learn basic things about their bodies and sex. A lot of it is anatomy and what changes they will see.
They also learn about families and discuss that type of thing.
