➔ Pregnancy
At first they thought I was 6weeks and 4days going on the first day of my last period but now we are thinking that I could only be 5 and a half weeks maybe. I have a 32-33 day cycle and there is no exact way to tell when we conceived and I did not test positive for pregnancy until 37 so I am thinking that it could just be that it is to early to tell, I go back in two weeks and until then I will be giving blood samples starting Monday. I just wanted to know what other women’s experiences were with this. If it often led to miscarriage or if they were able to carry successfully full term or if it was nothing to begin with and they had a D&C done.

Hi again! Please don't be worried yet. I am very irregular and that time i was pregnant, they said "oh you are 8 weeks along"...and when i explained there was no way...then they decided MAYBE 5 weeks. Maybe all you needed was one more week to see something in the yolk sac. Be glad that you can see a sac...they didn't see anything with me (and my hormone levels didn't rise either). How are your hormone levels doing--is that HCG number rising? Email me and let me know how you're doing.

this did not happen to me personally, but a good friend at work's daughter.
She was like 7 weeks (she had an irregular cycle so it was "guess work") when she sent in for a transvaginal ultrasound...she had a miscarriage a couple years before is why she had the transvag done. They saw an empty egg sac and that was all. She did not have a D&C done as it looked like her body was going to absorb the sac. Her hormone levels kept going up instead of down...so the doc did another transvag at about 11 weeks.
There was a baby...all safe and sound.
They believe that there had originally been twins where one died, and the living baby was "hidden" behind the empty sac.
She is due in about 2 months...healthy pregnancy so far.

When I first found out I was pregnant, hubby and I rushed to the doc to get an ultrasound for confirmation. However, there was absolutely NOTHING there. Apparently, I wasn't nearly as far along as I originally thought. The doc had us come back in 3 weeks for a repeat u/s and we got to see our little bean for the first time and the crown-to-rump length measured 7 weeks and 1 day. I'm now 11 1/2 weeks and had another u/s the other day. My baby is developing fine and has a nice, strong heartbeat.
Be patient and listen to your doctor. I know it's hard to wait but that's the only thing you can do right now. Those three weeks between the u/s appointments were absolute torture for my husband and I so I know how hard it is...

I had an ultra sound at 5 1/2 weeks and could not see the fetal pole at that time, but at 8 weeks saw and heard the heartbeat. Unfortunately I lost my baby girl last month at 21 weeks due to Incompetent cervix.

My first u/s the Doc didn't see anything (I thought I was about 4/5 wks pregnant). However, the 2nd u/s we saw a sac but didn't see the fetal pole. The following week (~6/7 wks) we saw the fetal pole and heart beat. OB told me that I wasn't as far along as we had thought. I am now 25 wks along and expecting a little girl.
So, you might be like me and thought that you were farther along.

It depends on how pregnant you are.
The image that you see on the ultrasound isn't really a yolk sac. Humans don't have yolk sacs they have a placenta, which is solid and looks like a minature liver. The placenta is attached to the inside of the womb. The baby is attached to placenta by the umbilical cord. The baby is in an amnionic sac, which is the fluid filled bag that the baby floats in.
The first ultra sound that I had with one of my kids, the only thing I saw looked like a little jellybean with a tail.

... What do you mean? You had an ultrasound, and you didn't see anything? YOU"RE not supposed to. The ultrasound reader is. Those images are difficult to decipher, thats why there are trained professionals who go to school to learn how to read them. Did they act like something was wrong? If there seemed to be an abnormality I guarentee something would have been done. They wouldn't just leave you hanging if there were a complication that might mean something is wrong with you or the baby.

I did. The technician would not say anything except that the doctor would phone me. It meant a prenancy had occured but was now gone--the sac emptied. I am so sorry.
