He was a civil rights leader and preached tolerance through non violence. He fought for the rights of the oppressed and discriminated against.
And yeah, that was a good speech.

Martin Luther King was an amazing man who dreamed of a world where equality existed. In his letters from a birmingham prison, he stated that an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. he asked who would want to live in a world with a negative peace? a place where people see injustice and do not act to correct it, but rather let it be, because that is easier? we still see this in our everyday lives. how many times have you not done something, no matter how small, because it was just easier to not do it?

have you watched a video of his speech? it is extremely powerful. to see him express a dream for basic human rights is moving. my favorite part is when he says "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. "

you can read his speech here if you like, and also hear the speech (but not see it): http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/Ihaveadream.htm

i also suggest reading letters from a birmingham jail, which can be found here: http://almaz.com/nobel/peace/MLK-jail.html

i hope this answers your question. if you want to read further about him, there is a (very) short biography of his life located here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/king_martin_luther.shtml

He was a TV star. He charmed the women and the media even though the civil rights movement started about 100 years before his speeches.
