? is not the answer. The pattern is 2nd key from the left side and 4th key from the right side. So it is: Q P then A L Then Z < . THAT is the correct answer. :-) (Did I win?)

NEW ANSWER (Based on new details)
Q is to P
A is to L
Z is to P (I now believe this to be correct.)

I will be glad to explain how I got this AFTER I am picked as the winner.

No
: is the right answer (or ;)
A is to L should be A is to : (or ;) because you use your pinkeys to key them all, but not L

OR

No
< is the right answer (or maybe ,)

q to p on top alpha-row of keyboard (101) is 9 spaces
a to l second alpha-row is 8 spaces
z to ? doesn't follow established pattern. (9 spaces)
7 spaces is < (but may be ,[comma] depending on weather you are using shift or cap locks to get the capital letters in your puzzle.

K_BIZ is right in a sense, but there are other alternatives:
A is to : (typewriter keyboard)

Q is to |
A is to "
Z is to ? (Dell keyboard)

Yours is correct if you want a 9-8-9 sequence

I didn't bother to check out the ASCII relationships.

.....and, no, I don't believe you are willing to shell out $1,000.000.

reducing the number of keys between the letters by 1 for the row of keys below on my laptop (compaqnc6000), "z" is to "," and "Z" is to "<". I suspect it could be different on other keyboards.

No, Z is to M.

Why? Because P and L are letters, "?" is not. So the correct answer is "Z is to M".
