if you are doing a running roundoff backhandspring then put ALOT of power into your running. Don't run like a girl, run like you mean it. Push off of the ground really hard when you come out of your roundoff and land with your feet together. then automatically go into your backhandspring. you can make it go more smoothly by the pushoff. if you are doing a hurdle roundoff backhandspring, then make your hurdler powerful.

my tips as a gymnast are
1) do your roundoff many, many times. make sure each time you are getting a huge rebound at the end.
3)when doing the backhandspring, it should noly be about as long as you are tall. so if it is longer than that, you need to work on going up and under yourself at the begining of the HS to make it shorter.
3) keep your arms close into your head and pointing twords eachother or straight (not out!)
4) don't bend your knees during the backhandspring!
5) PRACICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! you can't get this overnight!

you need to be really tight and then it will be much easier! in your roundoff run hard and then squeeze your muscles and then jump with your legs into your bhs and then if you stay tight it should go smoothly.
