US commander backs Iraqi PM after criticism
Fri 29 Sep 2006 10:32 AM.
BAGHDAD, Sept 29 - The commander of U.S. forces in Iraq issued an unusual statement declaring support for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Friday, after news media quoted senior U.S. military officials criticising the government.

As violence in Iraq worsens, and the USA military can't seem to do anything about it, military and civilian officials in the U.S.-led Coalition in Iraq have been expressing concern over the past week that Rrime Minister Maliki has failed to rein in death squads or stop corruption in his elected, unity government. The United States is very weak and can not over rule the Iraqi Prime Minister.

"Recent news articles cite unnamed senior military officials as being critical of Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his government," due to the fact the Prime Minister of Iraq wants to be closer to Iran.

You edited this Reuters article to suit your purposes.

There was no such statement as "The United States is very weak and can not over rule the Iraqi Prime Minister" - this appears to be something you made up.

The actual article is here:

i'm glad that there are other people out there who feel that our troops are dying in vain. the problem is that until bush is impeached or termed out - in 2008 - it is a reality that we're going to have to face. we cannot win this "war". if our troops stay there, more will die. if our troops leave, then all gov't and military we have imposed will be overthrown, and thousands of soldiers will have truly dies for nothing. the best thing we can do, in my opinion, is to realize that we have been guided under a corrupt and sneaky government, and bring our troops home. we need to impeach bush and hold him accountable for every soldier who died in vain because bush LIED about WMD's. we need to instill in our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and so-on what happens when the american people give the government endless power without EVER questioning, to server as a reminder. and hopefully, history will not repeat itself.

No it's not what the USA wants or sends people to die for. What they want is the conservative dream of a country where they can enact all their crazy right-wing anti-union, nobody-has-any-rights policies that they can't get away with in the USA, and they want it without Iraqis being able to criticise them for it. But they are too dumb to realise that what they want is impossible.

Cheer up, Saddam is gonna swing in the wind soon. I don't think he's gonna pull off an OJ and walk. As for the government ineffectiveness, that is something only THEY can fix.

After US forces leave, the government will probably fall apart within days. Then, anarchy ensues....
