Due dates and ultra sounds can be off by up to 2 weeks, but like you said, not all babies are the same size at birth, and some women may not get as big as other women. Have they done an ultra sound to check her fluid levels? Sometimes if the fluid levels are too low it will make women look smaller.

It's normal for the size of the uterus to vary from the due date by around two weeks in either direction but remember the due date is an estimate based on the first day of a missed cycle so if your daughter was off by a few days when she had her initial appointment that would explain this as long as the doctor is not concerned about the size of her baby it really doesn't matter because they will come when they come and you know that to be true grandma.

Sometimes her measurements can be off by the position of the baby. I remember being 20 wks, and showing more than a 38 wk lady. So the size of belly is hardly indicative of how big the baby will be. Sometimes a big belly means a lot of amniotic fluid and stuff, and a small belly is just baby hiding.

Baby's grow differently and they base the weeks on the size of the baby and last period. She could be less weeks but already have a big baby. I honestly think that they only predicted due dates because you never know when the baby is going to want to come out and play. Since baby's grow at different rates then they also have to predict how many weeks by the studies they do on how big the baby is at certain weeks.

This is actually a common occurance. Sometimes the baby is actually younger than expected or smaller than expected. Ultrasounds are fairly reliable- although not concrete- in determining the baby's rate of growth. It helps if there is a previous one to compare to. The discrepancy can be due to her size, location of the uterus/placenta, possible engagement in the pelvis, etc. When I was pregnant last year, I went through the exact same thing. Turns out my son was normal size (actually, he was a bit bigger than normal), but had engaged ("dropped") already. Generally it is difficult to determine gestational age in utero this late in a pregnancy. If her measurements have been consistent until now, it's more than likely due to engagement. Good luck and get ready for your little grandbaby!!! :)

She will know how far along she is by going by her last period. Ultrasounds can be wrong sometimes--(It was for my mom with my lil brother)
They told her she was due in feb. but she knew she was due in January according to her last period. They even tried to stop her from having him when she was in labor but no drugs kept her from having him cause it was time for her to have him....
I know a girl that was huge (while pregnant) and they told her it would be a big baby and when she had the baby it weighed only 6 pounds.
So doctors and machines can be wrong from time to time

the doctor would not be judging the baby's age by her tummy size as it can be very different for different woman ,he has felt the height of her uterus, and the feel of the baby ,and judged it on that .get the ultra sound results and see ,they will measure the baby's scull as that is a really good way to tell age.

She should get the ultrasound so they can measure the baby and determine how far along she really is. Ultrasound is really the only way to tell how far along the baby has developed.
