Yes, I agree that in this country people seemed to be much too obsessed with a celebrity's life. They are just a human being no different than us except their lives are recorded in magazines and movies. That's the only difference is that theyr'e in the spotlight and have tons of money but I don't see why anyone would be obsessed with someone over that. There is a fine line between being a fan of a celebrity and being idiotically obsessed.

In a sociology class is was discussed when our country is in turmoil (war) the people are obsessed with movies and actors lives.
It's a harmless way to disassociate from reality
So maybe that's the answer.

i agree with you 90%!!! I say 90, because I am a die-hard Leo Dicaprio fan!! And have been for a loooong time now. But I dont go ape-$hit every time i see a pic ( ok, I used to,ok??) and i do get excited when I read a magazine and see his pic and i just HAVE to read the blurb. But seeing him on tv, for the "Departed" is cool. My hubby and kids still tell me when they see him on tv,and they come and get me and let me get all excited....But yeah,ppl like that , have no life... I agree with you... 90 %.

It's because they have no life and are obsessed because they wished they had a life similar to the celeb they are flippin over.
No, you see, I love Johnny Depp, but I don't flip out every single time I see a new picture of him, or article, or if he is drinking starbucks coffee...

Not all of us are. Personally, I don't like celebs. They poop and walk just like the rest of us do. It's their job, don't like them for their job more than anyone else.
