I am new, but I really want to learn how to design a website for a non-profit organization. I already own the website adress and have server space. So what is the best software to do this with? Someone told me MS FrontPage is good, but is it possible to learn on your own or is that getting in over my head? I do have a friend that designs websites for a living, but first of all she is very busy and secondly, she told me she taught herself and said it was easy. What how-to book do you recommend? FrontPage for Dummies? What about Video Professor? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Web designing is not a difficult task, but to begin with you definitely require someone to show you the 1st step. The best software you can use is dreamweaver, its a staright forward one as long as you have the basic idea. Ask you r friend to give oyu an hour or go through the tutorials found online or along with all these softwares. All you need is the besic idea, after that its gonna be your self interest, how well you want to learn, keep working on it and youll know more about it-thats self experience talking. Best of luck.

Depends on what you want really, some can be done with HTML coding and look good but if you want a Pro one you may want to work in dreamweaver. Frontpage is good, and easy to learn from what i hear. I use Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks, and of course photoshop and so forth. Also, you may want to consider using a template as a starting point, at least until you get the hang of it.

I don't recommend any software. I only recommend getting your hands dirty.

Try websites such as:

http://oswd.org and http://openwebdesign.org

They are sites that will provide you with many very good quality website designs, already built. All you need to do is maintain it.

Download the ZIP files, extract them, and study the source codes. Replace things with your desired content. Delete things, add things, find out what's necessary in a webpage design. Don't freak out with HTML code, make mistakes, and find out where you went wrong.

I have taken computer classes, and I've done things on my own. It's on my own, that I learnt what I know now.
