Yes you can do it in MS Word, but it is much easier to do it in Excel.
In MS word go the the top menu bar and click on the drop down menu for table. Then construct a table. Put the names into this table and go to the same drop down menu and use the sort function. But, if you are going through the trouble to make a table then you should do it in Excel where it is easier and import the Worksheet into Word. When you click on the table to work on it you will be taken to an Excel page, and then back to Word.
