Someone once told me an applicable comment; people only resort to insults and name calling when they run out of intelligent debate.

You're quite right, there are far too many people giving rude or plain foolish answers to people's often important questions. I think part of the reason for this may not be that such people are simply rude, but that they want the 2 points. So, instead of a reasoned reply, they say in about four or five words, something rude or flashy and get their 2 points for answering the question. Yahoo should put a stop to this. Don't know if it can be done, because a lot of people are going to see it as censorship or worse, downright anti-free speech.

Yes indeedy. Worse than that, there are times when there is no argument being made..just an innocent comment or observation that gets a nasty, usually personal, response. It's a waste of bandwidth and a waste of everybody else's time. I think Yahoo should add a courtesy rating as well as best answer rating to users profile. Kinda like the rating you get on ebay.
Oh and I am also sick of people critiscising other contributors spelling and grammar. Not everyone on Answers speaks English as a first language. They should try posting in Hungarian.
Oh.....and comments about nicknames and Avatars.
Didn't their mothers say that if you cannot say something nice you should'nt say anything at all.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest....
( I, of course, only make general nasty statements not personal ones and only in response to hateful comments ) ;-)

Unfortunately even on a site such as this there will be people of low intellect and even lower social skills. Best to ignore them totally eventually they will either get bored and go elsewhere or they may even set up a 360 group for the insulting, abusive and stupid.

yes, some people are rude, but on the same token, sometimes they do not mean to be rude, it is just the other person's interpretation of the comment, i know it has happened to me in person, i've said stuff 1/2 jokingly and people get mad because they have taken it the wrong way. it used to bug me but now it doesn't ..

I think to be honest this site is more about opinions than anything. You simply cant belive that everyone will agree with your question. You must learnt to compromise. Sorry if that sounds patronising

Doesn't surprise me at all actually..Some people are just rude and nasty and get off on it. especially because you cannot see them. They would not act like that to your face...
But it doesn't really bother me unless they email me telling me how I should think and what i should believe and say. But even though they tick me off, I ignore the emails.. Thank goodness there are not to many doing that..

I know, I know - but there's always going to be some people like that. They're just argumentative in order to get attention. It's quite sad really.

the internet has showed something : people are rude and coward. they have no respect and are full of hatred but in real life they do not have the guts to show it. behind a screen they all have big guts. having said that, there are still a lot of nice people who wish you good, me for instance !!
