Actually, it is pretty easy to make alcohol, too. So I would have to say no.

A better question is why would we want to legalize yet another substance that is so harmful to people, so harmful to families, and so harmful to the productivity of our nation's workforce?

Our government saw how bad alcohol was almost a century ago already, and made it illegal. The resulting crime wave was so bad, we had to legalize it again. We had already gone too far done the road of alcoholism to turn back. Why would we want to do that again with another substance that is just as bad? I've seen first hand how marijuana can destroy lives and destroy families. The destruction I've seen wouldn't have been made better by legalizing it, it would have been made worse.

Do we really want to start making our laws on the basis of "Well, this is okay, because surely it's not as bad as..."?

What's the next drug that wouldn't be "as bad" as pot and alcohol? LSD? Ecstasy? Coke? How far do we go down that slope before we justify Meth?

Legalizing pot is a step in the WRONG direction. We have been making steps towards making tobacco illegal. In more and more states it is illegal in any public building. The taxes on tobacco are getting higher and higher to discourage its use. These are steps in the RIGHT direction. Most states are making the penalties for driving under the influence more severe. This is another step in the RIGHT direction. Why would we want to make a huge step in the opposite direction?

If you want to smoke pot, move. There are plenty of countries that will have you. If you want to be an American, obey the law and take some responsibility. Listen to the words of JFK, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

It definitely seems like it is illegal because it would be hard to regulate or even tax it because like you said everyone can grow the stuff. When I visited Holland when I was younger, I saw quite a bit of people who were growing marijuana on their houseboats(at the time I was a bit too young to understand what the plant was). If everyone can grow the stuff in their own homes then how is the government going to know who to tax?

It is because cannabis is considered the entry level drug of choice that eventually leads to hard core drug use.
You are right, Alcohol and tobacco are in the same category. There are some medicinal uses for this weed but not enough to pull it out of its bad reputation.
If you need it for medicine ask help from your doctor.

It's still illegal because the laws that made it illegal are still on the books.

Because cannabis creates a more powerful addiction and damages the brain much more. if you do not abuse tobacco or alcohol they are not dangerous to your health. and please stop blaming the Government and all its hypocrisy, they just try to limit the bad to the people...
