We drive by this farm with horses on it all the time. My 3 year old asked me why they are wearing masks...and I have no clue. They have masks over their face. What is this for? My son is in the "why" stage and I'd like to be able to answer him.

keeps flies out of the wet eyes of a horse, if not flies lay eggs, eggs lead to maggots,, maggots eat eye,, blind horse

The reason the horses are wearing the "masks" is because they are wearing a commen thing,in the horse world.known as a fly mask.To keep flys off thier eyes.Depending on where a horse lives would say they need one or not. I can't believe your 3 yr old picked up on that. The horse mask is one thing.But the 3 yr. old that notices it is really something.!!

They are called Fly Masks. They keep flys off of the horses face. Flys like to land on the side of the horses and to drink the fluid out of it, it's gross and really bugs the horses. They come in all different colors and sizes. The horses can see perfectly out of them and they dont bother the horses at all.

They are called a fly mask. Horses can see out of them without trouble. Evan though we can't really see into them. it keeps the flys from crawling around on the horses eyes. It's a sign of a reasponsible horse owner.

It is so their eyes head and sometimes neck are protected from flies, horses can get quite a few nasty diseases from flies so owners like prevention instead of cure. Hope that helps you to answer your son now!

there fly masks...keep the flies off there faces..the eye part is like a mesh so that they can see..but the flies cant get to there eyes ect
