Clowns
Gosh no ... I'm kidding. That's what popped in my head after I read your question. Weird. Not exactly relaxing are they?
I usually try to think of nothing--a nice big pile of it. If the "nothing" is big enough, then the "somethings" won't have room to sneak in. I also notice the sounds of the room and house, or the owls outside--which I really enjoy. Before long I'm asleep. Sometimes I picture beautiful landscapes in my head--without clowns.

Building a house out in the country! First I picture a big rocky, tree filled field, then I clear it, then I start digging out the basement, then put in all the drainage pipes, then the 2 by 4's, and pour the cement floor, then start adding the upper floor, and so on and so on and before I even get to putting in the wiring, the next thing I know, BOOM! It's morning!!!!!!!

I have a sleep machine that is set on "surf", so I think about ocean waves. It's very relaxing.
