Genetics is the study of genes through their variation. i.e. the study of the inheritance of genetic traits.

Molecular genetics is the study gene structure and function. i.e. genes are made of DNA, and so molecular genetics generally involves the laboratory manipulation and study of DNA. Often it involves the study of gene mutations that are associated with genetic diseases.
