A gallon of milk leaked in my trunk on the way back from the grocery store. Didn't know it until a couple of days later when the entire car smelled like dead animal... I have cleaned the carpeting in the trunk with everything imaginable, washed it down with vinegar and water, laundry soup, used febreeze, ozium, baking soda, regular dish soap. I cleaned out the wheel well too. A month later, it still smells really bad. What else can I do besides sell it? It is a fairly new car too- I'm so upset.

Go to the auto parts store or your local pet store and ask for an enzyme cleaner. The enzymes will destroy any biological growth that has occured because of the spill. Spray it on and brush well, then clean with a damp cloth. It should be a noticable improvement.

Take it to a professional detail / cleaning shop! They will put in an ozone machine. You could go to an autowrecker and buy a new rear carpet or go to the dealer and buy a new one! But before I start to buy different carpets I would take some news paper and crumple it up and throw it in the back of the car for a couple of days and especially on a hot ter day. The newspaper will soak up the stench and filter it out just like the trees do for air pollution! Try it as it costs the price of a newspaper. What do you have to lose? When the smell is gone you can send me a cheque for $25.00! LOL First you got to email me for my address!

Airing it out over time will definitely help. If you can avoid getting it wet for a while too. I would keep putting powdered products in as often as possible because powder absorbs odor. Sprays and perfumes just mask it and they never work because they wear off and it just smells weird. Powders absorb the odor though and then when you vacuum the powder up, it takes the odor away with it. It might take a few tries.

That powdered pet odor remover that you vacuum up works great- but leave it in for a day first (as long as you don't get it wet or it will clump.) I used that to get rid of the smell of vomit after my stupid drunk cousin threw up on the side of my bed while I was away for 3 days and didn't tell anyone so it just sat there... Ugh! It worked though!

If all else fails, see if you can find a car wash that does steam cleaning for the inside of your car. Good luck!

Just put an air freshener thingy you put on your rearview mirror, but put it in your trunk area, then your car should hopefully smell somewhat better.
