I'm thinking of buying a Gateway MX6912 or MX6920. They are both under $1000, because they are on sale. is that a good deal?
I need it for my studies in college primarily.
Which one is better?
I appreciate any answer I get....it is so hard to make a desicion on my own because my computer knowledge is very limited.
Thank you!

Please post stats. I will see if the Serial Numbers them self will pull some stats up for me.

For studies your going to need something with
512MB ram or higher.
80GB Hard Drive or higher.
The Video card on-board or not should have at least 64MB but most will have 128MB+ anyhow.

Believe it or not most of these stats are Basic stuff so both those laptops should be OK. There are other things to look at but those are some important ones.

I will search the serials and edit my post if I find any more info or you post any more info.

This might not be the laptop your looking for this will do for what your looking for.

Speak to the sales man at the store he or she will probably be able to tell you what one of those two are better and why. If they can't then bring a friend or family member there that can. Not everyone is truthful if you want to get advice from more then one person.

I have had to buy three laptops in the last 4 hears for my kids who are in college. I have bought Gateway, Compaq and Toshiba.

While Toshiba is rated the best it is quite expensive. The Compaq is my last choice. The Gateway with the 1 gig of memory would be the most bang for your buck. If you can't afford that, then the 512 memory chip is OK. Gateway doesn't cost the most but it is a good solid computor.

Be sure if you are staying on campus to buy insurance, usually offered throught he college. It is very cheap $37-50 for the year, and covers theft and loss from 2,500-5,000.

If you want it to last a while buy a Toshiba Laptop. I have one, it works great and I have never had to bring it in for repairs.

Any computer is good depending on what your use it for, for gaming its better a computer with good graphics card, for students like your who want to do some research and maybe listen to music a desent computer with good memory (512mb and up) and desent hard drive (40gb and up) would be good.
