First let me say that I have nothing against Mexicans or wanting a better life - I'm not a racist. I do have a problem with ILLEGAL entry into the country. It's a sad fact that when people hear about illegal immigrants, they automatically think of "Mexicans" just as they think of a middle easterner when they hear the word "terrorist". That's just the way it is, I'm not saying it's right. Ok that said...what about this idea. What if the USA said anyone here illegally can become a citizen they just have to join the military. They would learn how to speak english, learn a trade, and earn money to send to their families. They should have to do 1-2 years in Iraq. This would allow many of the men over there now to come home as their terms keep getting extended due to "stop loss". I think it would be a fair way for anyone to EARN citizenship and respect for doing so.

They definitely should join the military...if you love this country so much you have to sneak in to be here, the least you can do is pay us back in support instead of hiding in the shadows cause you don't have your papers. Do it the right way and we'll accept you! RIGHT ON!

Eliminating all the elderly, women and children illegal immigrants those left would be the healthy 18-35 year olds who want to join the military to gain US citizenship....

Apparently the US Military does not like the idea. Only permanent residents can join the military and they must become citizens. I guess the military wants people in the military who support the American way of life.

Being in the military is not just a job like manufacturing a car or computer. It is a job where a person's life may depend on his bunker buddy saving it.

This would work for allot of the illegal immigrants, except for the old, & pregnant. The women should be forced to take the shot, to keep from getting pregnant., and the old should be the sole responsiblity of the family, not the government. If you want to come, stay, and have a better life, i agree, you should pay for it, we do right? But the very 1st thing is that this is the United States, so your main language should be English, not Spanish, or anything else, etc. I'm getting pretty tired of all the attention to help translate to their needs., they wouldn't do it for us, right?? We the people of this country have had to obey the laws for decades, so they would have to do the same., and quit handing out benefits to everyone who applys for it. My gosh, we have enough people who need our help in the U.S. without adding wood to the fire with all the dept made by illegal immigrants.

Immigration, both legal and illegal, will remain as long as people have the chance at a better life by being in the U.S. Instead of making more laws (which are only enforceable to a point) or building more fences and adding border guards, you have to remove the economic incentive. Don't go after the dad who's left his entire family in Mexico to work all day in California fields so his kids can eat. He'll keep coming back as long as he needs to in order to support his family; you think he cares whether what he's doing is legal if his kids are starving? Go after the white-owned companies who hire illegal immigrants because they're cheap labor, and invest in Mexico so people can find jobs in their own country.

Like many undesirable things---abortion, music piracy, gangs---the solution is not more laws or more law enforcement, but removing the incentives for the people who commit the crimes.

we are all living on stolen land. we are all "illegal immigrants" building giant tinder boxes on land occupied by force. did we live the native language 500 years ago? no; we made a country where anyone can come and speak and practice whatever they want, where ever they want.

the real problem with illegal immigration is indeed the american work ethic or rather the lack thereof. if the american work ethic was as strong as a mexican with stars and stripes in his eyes, then there would be no issue because americans would be out there at 4am in front of home depot trying to flag down a day's work

I think that land is for everyone to use and no one uses land illegally. Human kind needs to try to get along and not be all about money and greed, you say that the "illegals" have to earn the right to live in the US. What gave you that right? did you your self earn it? in what way?

After you answer those question think about this... "illegals" are here to work and go to school and send their children to school so that they can have a better life than they had..they are trying to survive and just be happy. Now tell me , do you do any of these things?

Sadly as well thought out as your question is, it would not work.
How can you put a 60 Year old Man or a Pregnant Woman or someone with a disability in the Military and send them to war?

You need to rethink your question but nice try.

I don't think I would want some illegal immigrant to just hop on over the border, get handed a gun, and just fight for a country he doesn't even belong to. What would our legal citizens do if we just had aliens fight for us?

All they have to do is make LEGAL immigration a little easier so that they wouldn't have to enter ILLEGALY.
