It totally depends what you're doing...If you watch TV...and REALLY take notice of the acting...it's VERY dramatic...Even if it's a comedy, it's still dramatically comical...you get what I'm saying??? A lot of it seems real, but if you really pay attention, lifes never like that...why be realistic?...Aren't you bored with the realism of life?...A good actor, creates a character that's...real...an amazing actor will create a character that's real...and will bring you to tears, or make you laugh out loud.
Also, there's different forms of acting...
Theatre tends to be a little more overdramatic than anything on film...Because on stage...being a bit more dramatic looks better from the audiences view...Many times...a person who's been trained in theatre will have trouble accostuming to film...and may not even never get used to toning down expressions...stuff.
Then...there's melodrama...which is SUPPOSED to be overdramatic...often for comical purposes, often not.
Acting to me...is a very sensitive subject that's treated with a lot of...indifference...Acting is the thing that everyone thinks they can do...But it's not...You need to train and become educated about it in more aspects that you can imagine.

The first response was correct. A performance can't overdo the role, otherwise it becomes hard to watch. If the audience can't believe what they are seeing, then they won't enjoy the performance.

hi pa
anything but it should be real then only people accept that.
Because dramatic isn't natural, and therefore you are not crating a real charactor whom people can relate to and enjoy on stage.

It's over-the-top, and not natural, makes you look like an amateur.
