Ticks me off.

He'll say blah blah blah.

I'm silent, thinking.

Then he asks me why I don't agree.

Pisses me off.

Your co-worker is looking for your approval or anyone else as a validation...to make them feel worthy. This person has a low self esteem.

Sounds to me like he is trying to stimulate an argument or in depth conversation for what ever reason. Do you usually consider yourself a conversationalist amongst others?

Weather you agree with him or not is not the point, it seems as if these altercations make you feel uncomfortable and understandably so if he is always assuming that your lack of comment indicates disagreement.

I would suggest that you limit the free/social time that you spend with this person. For example, if these confrontations take place during break times maybe you should take a walk to avoid all possible conversation. Or, if it is occurring during work times you should indicate somehow that you are to involved with your work to concern yourself with his trivial matters.

Good Luck, you can't choose the people you work with and I defiantly sympathize.

Break that word down into three words only think is he is making himself look like the first three letters of the word assume. Second you have a collaborative coworker on your hands that likes to bounce ideas off other people, enjoys working in a group. This person should not Assume you disagree you are merely weighing all the facts before feedback that can be traced to you are mentioned. when he asks why you don't agree simply tell him its not that you don't agree you just have to think about it.

territorial pissings. just thank god or evolution we arent dogs(or similar)
for instance everyone likes some behind, but id rather shake hands first. or how about this 1 hmmmm grass i think ill chew it.
mmmmmmmmmm'mmmmmmmm a turd ill just wolf it down. gotta do it doggy style always and know use denying it, cause you get hooked so to speak. and the ever maddening lawn mower hatred, and love of rolling things(tires wheels, you name it)
the benefits are few, like sleeping when you want, not wiping or washing after leaving the so called" mmmmm'mmmm a turd". the ability to reach areas we people cant but i wouldnt recomend this 1 either.
aww forget it, life is ruff, dogs live the life of ryley
we all do the territory thing without realizing it. same as getting butt-hurt over a little tresspassing. you know the saying the big dog eats first, eats their fill, let the rest fight it out. evolution sucks.
every1 wants to establish their number in the ladder of success.
mostly i like the bottom rung cause knowone fights me over it,but if so pushed, i bark big and mean (and bite). i just hate conflict. dont ever mistake a nice person or pacifist for being dumb or weak. "comes around goes and goes and goes around"
its nice to be counted as number 1 if you count from the bottom like most normal people.

Let me guess.
Either a 1) Mr. Expert - Know it all. or
2) A braggart that would have to be about 170 yrs old to done all the things they say they have.

He/SHe is just self-absorbed, and it is a blow if you don't agree and say basically, "amazing, I've never heard of that."

How to solve: Sorry, IDK. Most of my ideas are illegal. I've worked with two people like them in my life, one was boss years ago, one currently in a car-pool. At least I can sleep in the car-pool.

respond by saying, "It's not that I disagree, I'm just trying to think about the comments you've made, they're though provoking" or just say" I dont have to agree with something just because you said it!"
