ok.... it will be like this:
first try: weigh the coins by grouping them into 2.... meaning 6 each on the balance....then...perform the second try to which grouping of the coins is lighter
second try: weigh which ever resulting grouping of the coins in the first try, but this time 3 each on the balance, perform the third try on the lighter group
third try: weigh any two coins from the resulting group in the second try .... if the two coins are equal... the one not being weighted is the faulty coin.... if they're unequal then the faulty coin is the lighter one....
*for example
here are the coins....
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 a b c
First Try:
A - 1 2 3 4 5 6
B - 7 8 9 a b c
result = B is lighter..
Remaining Coins:
7 8 9 a b c
Second Try:
C - 7 8 9
D - a b c
result = D is lighter
Remaining Coins:
a b c
Third Try:
if: a=b, then c is the faulty coin
if: a
if: a>b, then b is the faulty coin...
