It's a scam. My daughter published a poem with them. They accept everything, so evryone is a finalist. They do publish books, but they don't market them except to other poets in the book, and since they don't say when the prize will be awarded, they can actually go for years without giving away any money.
Your best bet is to get a book called Poets Market, that comes out every year and submit to someone who pays money. even a penny a word will get you more than poetry.com

Yes, it is all part of the promotional sceme to get you to buy books. I also entered a poem and it was published in a book. It cost me almost $60.00 for the book. It was a small book of poems and they even put my poem on the first page. If you want to get your poem published for $60.00 then I recommend you do it. I also got invitations to go to an award ceramony that cost hundreds and I declined. I think it is a scam so that is why I declined. If you are going to get an award you shouldn't have to pay for it, DUH! The company preys on you, knowing you might be gulable enough to bite. I was. I hope you aren't.

Yes I have entered. I have never won but the books are very nice and it is great to see your name in print. My local library has bought the books my poems are in. to have on their shelves. Sometimes there is also a CD offered where your poem is read with other poems and music.

I did that too....and got A LOT of emails. When I read the fine print, it was all just a scheme to buy their book or display for your poem. Never amounted to anything.

Well, they will certainly try to get you to buy a book, an award plaque, or both. Some genuinely good work is published on the site, and yet there is this extremely commercial aspect to it. Forewarned, I guess, is forearmed.

Scam. If you're poems any good, do not put it online in anyform. /enter a judged contest--I did, and got great feedback from the judges.
