The small towns around the Buffalo area have cheap apts for $350 and up. Toronto is 1 1/2 hour away. And there are alot of smaller Canadian cities like Hamilton and Wellsboro that have pride things going on. Try typing in gay--(name of city) and do a search. It should bring up a list of everything a gay would be interested in like groups activities ect.

Believe it or not, Pittsburgh PA is gay-friendly (as long as you're in the city proper, not the 'burbs). It also has a reasonable cost of living. One bedroom apartments in decent neighborhoods can go for as low as $500/month, and many houses are in the ballpark of $150K or less. The neighborhoods to check out are near the universities - Oakland, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Friendship, Regent Square, Edgewood, Swissvale, Greenfield, Bloomfield, I'm sure there are others but that's off the top of my head. You might try contacting the Gay and Lesbian Center at http://www.glccpgh.org/

Try the west coast, like vancouver. Specifically Davies street. Very gay friendly, and entire community with resteraunts, shops, appt, homes. The cultural diversity and the complete openess of the people living there, not to mention legal marriage (yes legal divorce too) are all allowed. It's not cheap, but wages in comparison are also high.

I would say Santa fe new mexico. Its the second most gayest city in america. in fact they say that it has mores gays per capita then san francisco and the weather is great too. and Albuquerque is only 50 miles away and that isnt a bad place either. Oh by the way there are no gay bars in santa fe, just two gay friendly bars. enjoy looking the country for what you are looking for

Charlotte's NC's not bad. Property values have yet to completely skyrocket, Very easy to find a nice property below what you mentioned, and tha livin's easy (in certain areas of course!) There's a fairly large and active community here, and we boast a number of friendly bars, clubs, restaurants, and just social scene in general. Not to mention the outstanding growth of art of all types in this area over the last decade! I've lived here all my life and can say honestly I've felt a general freedom to be who I am here in almost every way. Hope this helps.

I love San Diego. We have a lesbian City Council Member, a lesbian State Representative and a lesbian District Attorney. But it is way too expensive for most.

Columbus, Ohio is a great place to live. There's a ton of gay stuff to do, everything from gay darts to softball to scrabble and more.
