You don't have to condone what he's done in order to not judge and to forgive. Decide if you want to do as God suggests, or turn away. God says to ask and you shall be forgiven. If God can forgive -- can you? Personally, I would keep my word, because it's not for me to judge. God doesn't say to only follow His word when it's convenient.

We have a set of rules from God, but it does not involve being naive or doing something that will harm us.

Knowing the guy doesn't condone what he's done, however, you need to protect yourself and be safe and careful about how much you let the guy know about you.

In the future, let your cousin know that you don't want to be involved with his prison friends. I was in a similar situation years ago when my godbrother was locked up. At first it started out as me being the person who would use the call waiting and call relatives for one of his close friends. By being on the 3-way with this guy and his relatives, I began to know more about the guy. He was interested in me and started writing to me and sending me handmade cards that contained beautiful poetry. I was only slightly interested but once reality set in that he was soon being released, I became nervous about finally meeting this guy face-to-face. I saw him in person once, but by this time I was so reluctant to meet him, yet I felt like I owed this guy something for some reason.

Dont' fall for this stuff as I did. When people are locked up, they know how to be very manipulative ans say all the right things, convincing, sympathetic, caring-you name it. And the ones that fall for this stuff are the "nice" ones, vulnerable, or low-self esteem.

If you don't feel comfortable keeping in touch with this guy, by no means should you feel obligated to do so.

If the man is mentally sound (well for a serial killer) and freely admits he is a killer, then you should wash your hands of it. Let God punish him and simply step away(and change your name).
