I have the Chilton's Manual, it shows an exterior fuel pump and that is what the auto parts store gave us, but we can not locate it. We told them 1.8 liter fuel injected 2WD, and we're stumped.

If you go to Checkers Auto parts or a similar store, you should be able to find a mechanics manual on your car.
Chances are that it's in the fuel tank.

It should be inside the fuel tank as most late model fuel injected vehicles do.
