Beets and Liver. Just the smell of liver makes me gag.

got u all beat
my mom (rest her soul) was a depression kid
at that tie the thought of the next eal was sometimes only a wish
they ate what they had, sometimes nothing
she used to make a soup when i was a kid that had turnips and lard in it
we used to laugh and say she used the sme chicken for chicken soup for ten years
all she would do was dip the chicken's feet in it for taste and let it go
now this was way way way past the days of the depression, but if any of you older folks remember ... our parents survived without $ or mcdonalds or grocery stores
no regular meals and the meat you got was not always the best so they got used to burning things till they were safe to eat
some of these people never got past all that as life got better
my mom was one
i love food and cook quite well
very very well i might add
i still think of the meals, especially that one that would make a maggot jump off a gut wagon and wonder if there was anything any worse
